Description

The equipment specification for this project is a large 4.5-meter system with a single-load capacity of 300 kg. It is designed for the storage, material issuing, and automated line-side supply of production materials.

Based on the customer’s line-side warehouse requirements, JY STE Technology planned a vertical automated storage system equipped with an LED display, account-based access control, a fully enclosed panel design, and an automatic gripping mechanism. The solution helps address common challenges in conventional rack-based storage, including excessive floor space usage, cumbersome manual recordkeeping, material issuing errors, and the handling burden of heavy materials.

After implementation, material information can be managed in real time through the system. By integrating AGV-based inbound/outbound handling and material transport, the line-side warehouse becomes safer, more accurate, and more efficient, further supporting the smart manufacturing and automation requirements of automotive production lines.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Overview

This project is designed for a line-side warehouse at a major domestic automobile manufacturer. Before implementation, materials were stored on traditional shelves and access information was recorded manually. After automated storage was introduced, material information could be recorded and managed through the system, while LED display assistance, access control, automatic clamping, and AGV integration improved material handling and warehouse control.

Key Differences Before and After Implementation

Upgraded from traditional shelving and handwritten records to system-managed, enclosed automated storage with controlled access and AGV integration.

Before | Traditional Line-Side Shelving

Traditional shelving relied heavily on manual recording and operator judgment, creating risks in picking accuracy, material control, floor-space usage, and handling safety.

  • Material access information required handwritten manual records
  • Material specifications were difficult to distinguish, increasing picking errors
  • Open shelving made materials difficult to control
  • Stacker height limitations restricted vertical storage
  • Capacity expansion required horizontal extension and more floor space
  • Heavy materials and high production demand increased physical workload
  • Manual loading and unloading increased workplace safety risks

After | Automated Line-Side Storage

After implementation, material management, picking assistance, access control, vertical-space utilization, and AGV handling were integrated into the automated storage workflow.

  • Material information is recorded and managed through the system
  • LED display assistance reduces reliance on manual judgment
  • Full enclosure design limits material access to designated entry and exit points
  • Account and password verification controls retrieval permissions
  • High-density vertical storage keeps maximum floor occupation below 3 pyong
  • Automatic clamping supports inbound, outbound, and AGV loading/unloading
  • Reduced manual handling lowers physical workload and safety risks

1. Challenges Before Automated Storage

The line-side warehouse relied on traditional shelving and manual operations, creating problems in record accuracy, material identification, access control, space utilization, and heavy-material handling.

01

Handwritten Records and Inventory Discrepancies

Material access information had to be recorded manually in writing, making inventory records harder to maintain accurately.

02

Difficult Material Identification and Picking Errors

Material specifications were not easy to distinguish, increasing the risk of incorrect material retrieval and impact on production effectiveness.

03

Open Shelving and Limited Material Control

Traditional shelves used an open-storage design, making materials more difficult to control.

04

Horizontal Expansion and Excessive Floor-Space Use

Stacker limitations restricted storage height. Increasing capacity required horizontal expansion, wasting vertical space and affecting production-line layout and planning.

05

Heavy Manual Handling and Safety Risks

Materials were heavy and production-line demand was high, creating a severe physical burden during manual loading and unloading and increasing workplace safety risks.

2. Solution: Large 4.5 m / 300 kg Automated Line-Side Storage

The automated storage solution combines system-based material records, LED display assistance, full enclosure access control, high-density vertical storage, an automatic clamping mechanism, and AGV handling.

01

System-Based Material Management

All material information is recorded and managed through the system, reducing discrepancies caused by handwritten records.

02

LED Display-Assisted Picking

LED display assistance reduces the need for manual judgment and helps lower material retrieval errors.

03

Full Enclosure and Access Control

The storage system uses a full enclosure design. Materials can only be accessed through designated entry and exit points, with account and password verification required before retrieval.

04

High-Density Vertical Storage Below 3 Pyong

Automated storage makes effective use of vertical space at high density while keeping maximum floor occupation below 3 pyong.

05

Automatic Clamping and AGV Handling

The automatic clamping mechanism supports inbound and outbound handling as well as AGV loading and unloading, reducing manual labor.

3. Improvements After Implementation

Reduced Inventory Discrepancies

System-based records and management reduce discrepancies between recorded and actual material quantities.

Fewer Retrieval Errors

LED display assistance reduces reliance on manual identification and lowers material retrieval errors.

Stronger Material Access Control

Full enclosure and account/password verification prevent unauthorized material retrieval.

Improved Space Utilization

High-density vertical storage reduces floor-space pressure compared with horizontal shelf expansion.

Reduced Manual Workload

Automatic clamping and AGV handling reduce the need for personnel to move heavy materials manually.

Supports Automated Line Supply

Automated storage and AGV integration support more efficient material supply to the production line.

AUTOMOTIVE SMART STORAGE VALUE

4. Smarter and More Automated Line-Side Storage

The automated storage system addresses the limitations of traditional shelving through system-based management, LED picking assistance, enclosed access control, vertical high-density storage, automatic clamping, and AGV integration.

Accurate Retrieval

LED display assistance reduces manual identification errors.

Controlled Access

Full enclosure and account verification keep material access controlled.

Automated Handling

Automatic clamping and AGV integration reduce manual handling.
