PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Overview

During the site visit, the client explained that limited space had created a need for a more suitable storage management solution. The company owner had previously seen a vertical automated storage system at a friend's factory, which led to this project evaluation. During discussions, Apex Equipment explained that it is a local Taiwanese manufacturer with independently designed hardware and software. This provides the capability to support future production-line automation upgrades and integration with the client's existing systems. Based on the 8.5 m site height, the need to manage molds, fixtures, and spare parts, and the low-vibration requirement, a large 8 m, 1000 kg automated storage system was planned.

1. Company Background: Precision Molds, Injection Molding, and Medical Equipment Parts

Jun He Technology specializes in precision mold manufacturing, injection molding, and medical equipment parts production, and is trusted by major optical manufacturers. Its product portfolio includes contact lenses, medical products, optical lenses, semiconductor-related products, bicycle accessories, and high-precision machined components.

The stored materials include molds, fixtures, spare parts, and material bins. Because ultra-precision machining equipment is installed next to the storage area, the client required not only greater storage capacity and better space utilization, but also stable, low-vibration system operation to avoid affecting nearby high-precision processes.

A large 8 m, 1000 kg vertical automated storage system was introduced to address bin stacking, insufficient space, difficult material retrieval, and interference with production-area traffic flow.

2. Client Requirements and Project Conditions

01

Mold, Fixture, and Spare Parts Management

Centralize molds, fixtures, spare parts, and material bins within a systematic storage management process.

02

8.5 m Site Height

Plan a large 8 m vertical automated storage system based on the site's 8.5 m available height.

03

Special Low-Vibration Requirement

Because ultra-precision machining equipment is located next to the storage system, stable operation and low vibration were essential requirements.

BEFORE / AFTER

Key Differences Before and After Implementation

The operation was upgraded from pallet-stacked bins, difficult material retrieval, and obstructed traffic flow to centralized tray management, vertical storage, and a cleaner, more efficient production area.

Before | Temporary Bin Stacking and Disrupted Traffic Flow

Before implementation, limited floor space forced a large number of material bins to be temporarily stacked on pallets. This made materials difficult to locate and affected both production-area traffic flow and workplace organization.

  • Large quantities of material bins had to be temporarily stacked on pallets because of limited space
  • Materials were difficult to locate, increasing handling time
  • Stacked bins and materials interfered with production-area traffic flow
  • Insufficient space limited the usable production area
  • Molds, fixtures, and spare parts lacked centralized management

After | Large 8 m, 1000 kg Smart Spare Parts Warehouse

After implementation of the large 8 m, 1000 kg automated storage system, material bins could be properly placed on trays for organized management. Vertical storage released more usable factory space, shortened inbound and outbound handling time, and created a cleaner production-area traffic flow.

  • Material bins are properly placed on trays for organized management
  • Molds, fixtures, and spare parts are centrally managed within the storage system
  • The 8.5 m site height is utilized through a large 8 m vertical storage system
  • More usable space is available in the factory
  • Inbound and outbound handling time is effectively reduced
  • Material retrieval is faster and easier
  • Cleaner traffic flow improves workplace efficiency

3. Operational Issues Before Automated Storage Implementation

01

Material Bins Stacked on Pallets

Because of limited space, large quantities of material bins could only be temporarily stacked on pallets, increasing management pressure on the production floor.

02

Difficult Material Retrieval

Without centralized management, operators had to spend more time locating the required bins and materials.

03

Disrupted Production-Area Traffic Flow

Temporarily stacked bins occupied aisles and work areas, interfering with production-area traffic flow.

04

Precision Process Environment Constraints

Because ultra-precision machining equipment is located next to the storage area, low vibration and stable operation had to be considered during system implementation.

4. Solution: Large 8 m, 1000 kg Vertical Automated Storage System

Apex Equipment planned a large 8 m, 1000 kg vertical automated storage system based on Jun He Technology's site conditions. With an available site height of 8.5 m, the system fully utilizes vertical space and centralizes material bins, molds, fixtures, and spare parts on trays. Because ultra-precision machining equipment is located next to the storage area, low-vibration requirements were incorporated into the project design to balance storage efficiency with process stability.

Centralized Tray Management

Material bins are properly placed on trays, allowing molds, fixtures, and spare parts to be centrally managed within a systematic storage process.
