Description

This project features the implementation of a vertical smart storage system for the parts warehouse of Song Gia Industrial. The system is a large 7-meter model with a single-load capacity of 500 kg, designed for the centralized storage, inbound/outbound management, and inventory control of automatic lathe components.

Founded in 1991, Song Gia Industrial is a specialized manufacturer of automatic lathe components in Taiwan. As the customer moved forward with factory and equipment integration, there was a clear need to save space while improving parts management. Based on the site’s 7.5-meter height condition and the customer’s storage requirements, JY STE Technology proposed a large 7-meter automated storage system equipped with automatic height detection, storage location allocation, and a WMS warehouse management system. The solution was designed to address the limited space efficiency of conventional racks and the difficulty of manual inventory control.

After implementation, parts can be centrally managed through the system and retrieved more efficiently. The new setup not only increases storage capacity, improves inventory accuracy, and enhances operational efficiency, but also gives the parts warehouse a more standardized and intelligent management structure with long-term scalability.

PARTS STORAGE CASE STUDY

Song Gia Industrial | Spare Parts Warehouse
Large 7 m 500 kg Vertical Automated Storage Case Study

This project involved the implementation of a vertical automated storage system for the spare parts warehouse at Song Gia Industrial. Founded in 1991, Song Gia Industrial is a professional Taiwanese manufacturer of automatic lathe components. In response to its plant and equipment integration plan, the company sought to save floor space and strengthen material management. Based on the available 7.5 m site height, Apex Equipment planned a large 7 m system with a 500 kg load capacity. Automatic height detection, dynamic storage allocation, WMS inventory control, and a goods-to-person workflow now help improve storage capacity, inventory accuracy, and retrieval efficiency.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Overview

During the initial visit, General Manager Mr. Wu explained that the company was integrating its plants and equipment. He therefore wanted to introduce a vertical automated storage system to save space and strengthen material management. After detailed communication and planning, Apex Equipment confirmed the system specifications and installation location, then implemented a large 7 m system with a 500 kg load capacity. The system is now in operation, supporting spare parts storage, inbound and outbound control, and inventory management while reducing vertical-space waste and discrepancies caused by manual recordkeeping.

1. Company Background: Professional Manufacturer of Automatic Lathe Components

Founded in 1991, Song Gia Industrial is a professional Taiwanese manufacturer of automatic lathe components. Drawing on decades of industry experience and a business philosophy centered on continuous improvement, quality first, and customer satisfaction, the company serves customers in Taiwan and overseas.

As the company began integrating its plants and equipment, the storage method and material-management efficiency of the spare parts warehouse became key areas for improvement. Although fixed shelving is a common storage method, it could no longer meet the company's requirements for space utilization, inventory accuracy, retrieval efficiency, and overall site integration.

Song Gia Industrial therefore selected Apex Equipment's vertical automated storage system to improve spare parts management through automation, system-based inventory control, and a goods-to-person workflow.

2. Client Requirements and Project Conditions

01

Spare Parts Management

Improve spare parts storage, inbound and outbound operations, and inventory control.

02

7.5 m Site Height

Plan a large 7 m vertical automated storage system within the available 7.5 m site height.

03

500 kg Load Capacity

Each tray supports up to 500 kg, meeting the requirements for centralized spare parts storage and material management.

BEFORE / AFTER

Key Differences Before and After Implementation

The warehouse was upgraded from fixed shelving and manual inventory records to automatic height detection, dynamic storage allocation, WMS control, and goods-to-person operation.

Before | Spare Parts Stored on Fixed Shelving

Before implementation, spare parts were stored on conventional fixed shelving. Because the shelving height was limited, the factory could not make effective use of its vertical space. Inbound and outbound inventory records were also maintained manually, increasing the risk of inventory discrepancies and additional management costs.

  • Spare parts were originally stored on conventional fixed shelving
  • The limited shelving height restricted vertical expansion
  • Vertical space was underutilized, resulting in wasted storage capacity
  • Inbound and outbound inventory records were maintained manually
  • Manual recordkeeping increased the risk of inventory discrepancies
  • Inventory discrepancies created management and cost issues

After | Large 7 m Smart Spare Parts Warehouse

After implementation, automatic height detection and dynamic storage allocation adjust tray spacing according to the height of the stored materials. This reduces wasted vertical space and increases storage capacity. With the integrated WMS, operators only need to submit a retrieval request, and the required items are delivered accurately to the access point.

  • Automatic height detection identifies suitable storage conditions based on material height
  • Dynamic storage allocation adjusts tray spacing according to material height
  • Reduced vertical-space waste significantly increases storage capacity
  • The 7 m system makes full use of the available building height
  • The WMS manages inbound, outbound, and inventory data
  • Accurate inventory information reduces stock discrepancies
  • Operators submit a simple retrieval request and the required materials are delivered accurately
  • A goods-to-person workflow improves operational efficiency

3. Management Challenges Before Implementation

01

Limited Shelving Height

Conventional fixed shelving could not extend high enough to use the factory's vertical space effectively.

02

Wasted Storage Space

Inflexible shelving heights and storage positions wasted vertical space and reduced the warehouse's overall capacity.

03

Manual Inventory Discrepancies

Manual control of inbound and outbound inventory records increased the likelihood of discrepancies, creating management and cost issues.

4. Solution: Large 7 m 500 kg Vertical Automated Storage System

Based on Song Gia Industrial's spare parts storage requirements and the available 7.5 m site height, Apex Equipment planned a large 7 m vertical automated storage system with a 500 kg load capacity. Automatic height detection and dynamic storage allocation adjust tray spacing according to material height, reducing wasted vertical space and increasing storage capacity. The standard WMS manages inbound, outbound, and inventory data, while operators can retrieve the required materials accurately by submitting a simple outbound request.

Automatic Height Detection

Storage conditions are determined according to material height, allowing storage positions to match actual part dimensions.

Dynamic Storage Allocation

Tray spacing is adjusted according to material height, reducing wasted vertical space and significantly increasing storage capacity.

WMS Inventory Management

The standard WMS manages inbound and outbound records and helps the client maintain accurate inventory information.

Goods-to-Person Operation

After an operator submits a retrieval request, the required goods are delivered accurately to the access point, improving retrieval efficiency.

5. Improvements After Implementation

Full Use of Vertical Space

A large 7 m system was installed within the available 7.5 m site height, improving utilization of the building's vertical space.

Significantly Increased Storage Capacity

Automatic height detection and dynamic storage allocation adjust tray spacing according to material height, reducing wasted space and increasing capacity.

Accurate Inventory Information

The WMS manages inbound, outbound, and inventory records, reducing manual discrepancies and improving material-management accuracy.

Improved Retrieval Efficiency

Operators only need to submit a retrieval request through the WMS, and the required materials are delivered accurately to the workstation.

Supports Plant and Equipment Integration

Centralized storage and space optimization support the client's plant and equipment integration plan.
