Description

This project highlights the implementation of a rotary automated storage system for the raw material warehouse of Guan Kun Technology. The system is a light-duty 3.3-meter model with a single-load capacity of 100 kg, designed for the high-density storage, classification, and inbound/outbound handling of SMT reels.

To help the customer increase reel storage capacity within a space of just over one ping, JY STE Technology introduced a light-duty rotary automated storage system. The solution was designed to address issues commonly associated with conventional shelving, including excessive floor space usage, inefficient manual recordkeeping, time-consuming material picking, and frequent reel stacking and reshuffling.

After implementation, SMT reels can be centrally managed through the system with access control and digitalized records. This not only improves storage efficiency and inventory accuracy in the raw material warehouse, but also preserves flexibility for future ERP integration and moisture-control system upgrades, supporting a smarter and leaner approach to raw material management in the electronics industry.

The system is mainly used for high-density storage, categorized management, and inbound and outbound operations for SMT reels. The client aimed to increase storage capacity to approximately 6,000–7,000 pieces within a floor area of slightly more than one ping, while resolving the limitations of conventional shelving, manual location records, material searching, and time-consuming outbound preparation. Based on the site's operational requirements, Apex Equipment planned a light-duty 3.3 m, 100 kg rotary automated storage system to establish a higher-density, more systematic, and scalable SMT raw material storage solution.

Project Overview

In the SMT industry, reel management has a direct impact on electronic component assembly efficiency and production accuracy. Gwan Kuen Technology provides a range of products and solutions for SMT and DIP applications, helping customers achieve efficient, accurate, and reliable electronic component assembly. During the project planning stage, Mr. Lin, General Manager of Gwan Kuen Technology, continuously proposed new ideas. Apex Equipment actively cooperated with the client and jointly developed this new solution. The final configuration used a light-duty 3.3 m, 100 kg rotary automated storage system to increase reel storage capacity and improve material management efficiency within a limited space.

1. Industry Background: Reel Management Requirements in SMT Production

SMT, or Surface Mount Technology, is an electronic component assembly process used to precisely solder and mount surface-mount components, such as chips, capacitors, and resistors, onto printed circuit boards. In an SMT production environment, reels are numerous, varied in type, and frequently accessed. Therefore, storage density, classification efficiency, and inbound and outbound accuracy are critical requirements for raw material warehouse operations.

Gwan Kuen Technology provides a variety of products and solutions for SMT and DIP applications, helping customers achieve efficient, accurate, and reliable electronic component assembly. As material quantities and management requirements increased, conventional shelving could no longer satisfy the need for high-density storage and systematic inventory control.

By implementing a rotary automated storage system, this project upgraded SMT reel management from conventional shelving to a high-density, access-controlled, digitalized, and scalable raw material warehouse management model.

By using vertical storage and a dedicated access opening, large quantities of reels could be consolidated within an independent storage area. Categorized management, access control, digitalized material information, and future ERP integration established a scalable foundation for raw material warehouse management.
