Description

This project features an automated storage system implementation for Lotus Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., an international pharmaceutical group. The solution includes two 7.5-meter rotary automated storage systems with a single-load capacity of 200 kg, as well as two 7-meter vertical automated storage systems with a single-load capacity of 300 kg. The systems are mainly used for the classified storage and management of pharmaceuticals, documents, raw materials, and laboratory materials.

Before the upgrade, pharmaceuticals, documents, and raw materials were placed on pallets and stored on heavy-duty racks. This often resulted in inefficient space utilization, reliance on forklifts for retrieving materials stored at higher levels, time-consuming material reshuffling, and difficulty in separating and managing smaller items.

Based on the site’s 8-meter height condition and the storage requirements of the pharmaceutical plant, JY STE Technology introduced an integrated solution combining rotary and vertical automated storage systems. The solution was designed to improve material classification, storage and retrieval efficiency, and preservation quality.

After implementation, materials can be managed in a more organized manner through trays and plastic bins. Operators only need to retrieve items from the access opening, eliminating the need to use forklifts for high-level storage access. In addition, the enclosed storage design helps reduce exposure to sunlight and dust. Combined with verified temperature and humidity consistency, the system provides a smarter and more suitable storage environment for pharmaceuticals and laboratory materials.

This project involved the implementation of four automated storage systems for Lotus Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a fast-growing specialty pharmaceutical company in Asia with a broad portfolio spanning oncology, central nervous system, women’s health, cardiovascular and weight-management medicines. Because pharmaceutical development involves a wide variety of drugs, raw materials, documents and experimental samples, clear and traceable material management is essential. Based on the client’s 8 m facility height and storage requirements, JY STE installed two 7.5 m rotary storage systems with a 200 kg load capacity and two 7 m vertical lift storage systems with a 300 kg load capacity. The solution improves material classification, retrieval efficiency, vertical space utilisation and enclosed storage management.

Project Overview

Lotus Pharmaceutical manages a wide range of medicines, documents, raw materials and experimental materials. Previously, these items were stored on pallets and heavy-duty racks, resulting in limited space utilisation. Materials stored at higher levels required a forklift, while stacked items had to be moved and searched manually, making retrieval slow and classification difficult. After the automated storage systems were introduced, medicines, raw materials and related items could be organised on trays and separated in plastic bins. Operators now retrieve materials directly from the access opening without using a forklift, even when the items are stored at a height of 7 m. The client also verified that the temperature and humidity inside the storage systems remained consistent with the surrounding environment and that the equipment itself did not generate heat, making the solution suitable for pharmaceutical storage.

Lotus Pharmaceutical is one of Asia’s fast-growing specialty pharmaceutical companies, with a broad portfolio covering oncology, central nervous system, women’s health, cardiovascular and weight-management medicines.

The wide variety of pharmaceutical products makes clear management of experimental materials, raw materials, documents and related medicines particularly important during product development. Conventional pallet and heavy-duty rack storage can lead to inefficient use of space, slow retrieval, difficult classification and dependence on forklifts for high-level access.

JY STE provided an integrated configuration combining rotary storage systems and vertical lift storage systems. The enclosed equipment enables medicines, documents, raw materials and experimental materials to be classified, separated and managed through a computerised storage process.

The storage process was upgraded from pallet racks, forklift-assisted access and manual searching to tray classification, plastic-bin separation, access-opening retrieval and enclosed computerised management.

5. Solution: Four Automated Storage Systems for Pharmaceutical and Experimental Materials

Based on the facility height, pharmaceutical storage conditions and material-classification requirements, JY STE installed two 7.5 m rotary storage systems with a 200 kg load capacity and two 7 m vertical lift storage systems with a 300 kg load capacity. Trays are used as the primary storage units, allowing medicines, documents, raw materials and experimental materials to be organised by category. Samples and smaller items can be placed in plastic containers for further separation. Operators retrieve materials directly from the access opening, reducing dependence on forklifts for high-level storage. The enclosed design limits exposure to sunlight and dust.
