Description

This project is an automated storage system implementation case for the general warehouse of a U.S.-based testing and certification organization in Taiwan. The equipment specifications are a medium-sized 5-meter automated storage system with a load capacity of 300 kg per tray. It is mainly used for the centralized storage, inventory control, and environmental management of testing instruments and related materials.

The customer previously faced issues including moisture exposure, discrepancies between inventory records and actual quantities, and inconsistent material storage and retrieval practices. Based on the customer’s requirements, Apex Equipment Co., Ltd. planned and implemented a medium-sized 5-meter smart warehousing system. Through an enclosed storage space, temperature and humidity monitoring, First-In, First-Out (FIFO) management, and real-time inventory updates, the system helps address the limitations of traditional warehouse management.

After implementation, testing instruments and materials can be centrally managed within a systematic inventory management environment. This not only reduces the risk of moisture exposure and material deterioration, but also helps reduce expiration and scrapping through FIFO management and improves discrepancies between system records and physical inventory, making general warehouse management more accurate, secure, and efficient.

TESTING & CERTIFICATION STORAGE CASE STUDY

U.S. Testing and Certification Unit in Taiwan | Comprehensive Warehouse
Medium-Sized 5m Smart Automatic Storage System

This project involves a comprehensive warehouse for a U.S. testing and certification unit in Taiwan, primarily used to store testing instruments and related materials. Before implementation, materials were stored on traditional shelving in an open environment, increasing the risk of deterioration. Differences in manual access habits also made it difficult to consistently implement first-in, first-out (FIFO) management. In addition, the U.S. head office required accurate information on actual material inventory. A medium-sized 5m smart automatic storage system was therefore introduced to centralize the management of testing instruments and materials.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Project Overview

The comprehensive warehouse is used to store testing instruments and related materials. Before the smart storage system was introduced, traditional shelving and an open storage environment created material preservation and inventory management challenges. The introduction of a medium-sized 5m smart automatic storage system allows testing instruments and materials to be centrally managed while supporting enclosed storage, FIFO management, and real-time material information updates.

1. Project Background

The comprehensive warehouse of this U.S. testing and certification unit in Taiwan is used to store testing instruments and related materials.

Before implementation, the original storage method relied on traditional shelving. Because the storage area was open, materials were exposed to environmental conditions that could contribute to deterioration.

Manual access habits also made it difficult to consistently implement FIFO management, while the U.S. head office required actual material information from the Taiwan operation.

2. Storage Requirements

01

Centralized Management

Centralize testing instruments and related materials within one smart automatic storage system.

02

Enclosed Storage Environment

Reduce exposure to moisture and sunlight while supporting a controlled temperature and humidity environment.

03

FIFO Management

Use the FIFO function of the smart storage system to reduce material scrap caused by expiration.

04

Real-Time Material Information

Update warehouse material information in real time and reduce discrepancies between inventory records and actual stock.

BEFORE / AFTER

Key Differences Before and After Implementation

From traditional open shelving and manual inventory access to enclosed smart storage, FIFO management, and real-time material information updates.

Before | Traditional Shelving

Testing instruments and materials were originally stored on traditional shelves. The open storage environment increased the risk of material deterioration. Manual access habits also made FIFO management difficult to implement consistently, while the U.S. head office required accurate information on actual materials.

  • Traditional shelving was used for storage.
  • The open storage environment could lead to material deterioration.
  • Manual access habits made FIFO management difficult to implement.
  • The U.S. head office required actual material information.

After | Medium-Sized 5m Smart Storage

One medium-sized 5m smart automatic storage system was introduced to centrally manage testing instruments and materials. Its enclosed storage environment reduces exposure to moisture and sunlight and can be used together with temperature and humidity control.

  • One medium-sized 5m smart storage system was introduced.
  • Testing instruments and materials can be centrally managed.
  • Enclosed storage reduces exposure to moisture and sunlight.
  • The system can work with temperature and humidity control.
  • FIFO management helps reduce material scrap caused by expiration.
  • Warehouse material information is updated in real time.
  • Inventory record discrepancies can be reduced.

3. Management Challenges Before Implementation

01

Open Storage Environment

Traditional shelving created an open storage environment that could expose materials to moisture and sunlight, contributing to deterioration.

02

Difficulty Implementing FIFO

Manual access habits made it difficult to consistently follow the first-in, first-out management system.

03

Actual Material Information

The U.S. head office required actual material information, creating a need for more timely warehouse information updates.

4. Solution: Medium-Sized 5m Smart Automatic Storage

One medium-sized 5m smart automatic storage system was introduced to centrally manage testing instruments and materials. The enclosed storage environment reduces material exposure to moisture and sunlight and can be combined with temperature and humidity control. FIFO management helps reduce material scrap caused by expiration, while real-time material information updates help reduce discrepancies between inventory records and actual stock.

Centralized Storage

Testing instruments and materials are centrally managed within one smart storage system.

Enclosed Storage

The enclosed environment reduces exposure to moisture and sunlight.

FIFO Management

The FIFO function helps manage material usage order and reduce scrap caused by expiration.

Real-Time Information Updates

Warehouse material information is updated in real time to help reduce inventory discrepancies.

5. Improvements After Implementation
